DN2 thymocyte
A thymocyte that has the phenotype CD4-negative, CD8-negative, CD44-positive, and CD25-positive. [ GOC:tfm GOC:add http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/go/references/0000031 http://openisbn.com/search.php?q=0781735149&isbn=1/ ]
Synonyms: DN2 alpha-beta immature T-cell, DN2 cell, double negative 2, TN2 cell, TN2 thymocyte, preT.DN2.Th, DN2 alpha-beta immature T-lymphocyte, DN2 immature T cell, DN2 alpha-beta immature T lymphocyte
Term info
Note that this type of thymocyte is at the earliest stage of T cell receptor rearrangement of the beta, gamma, and delta T cell receptor chains. Also, there is growing evidence that molecular markers characterizing double negative thymocytes are different across species, especially in mouse versus human thymus. If in doubt, please consider using CL:0002489 'double negative thymocyte'.
