ureter smooth muscle contraction
A process in which force is generated within smooth muscle tissue, resulting in a change in muscle geometry. This process occurs in the ureter. Force generation involves a chemo-mechanical energy conversion step that is carried out by the actin/myosin complex activity, which generates force through ATP hydrolysis. The ureter is one of a pair of thick-walled tubes that transports urine from the kidney pelvis to the urinary bladder. [ GOC:mtg_muscle http://www.informatics.jax.org/searches/AMA.cgi?id=MA:0000378 ]
